About Davis Modern Heating & Cooling in Norristown, PA
When William Davis, Jr. founded this company in 1850, homes in southeastern Pennsylvania were heated with wood and coal. Keeping a family warm through the winter took daily effort and someone who knew what they were doing.
A lot has changed since then. The fuels are different, the equipment is quieter and far more efficient, and a thermostat can now sit in your pocket. What has not changed is why we do this work. We take care of families and the homes they live in, and we do it the way we would want our own homes cared for.
Today, Davis Modern Heating & Cooling is proud to be known as America’s Oldest Family-Owned Mechanical Contractor. After 176 years, we are still family-run, and we still see every customer as someone we hope to know for a long time.
176 Years of Keeping Homes Comfortable
Our story follows the story of home heating itself. In the 1800s, we worked with wood and coal. When oil heat arrived in the 1920s, we moved with it and learned the new equipment inside and out. In 1982, the business was incorporated as Davis Modern Heating & Cooling, the name our customers know today.
Few businesses get to watch that much change from the inside. Each new fuel and each new system brought something to learn, and each time the goal stayed the same. Families needed someone they could count on to understand the equipment in their homes, and we wanted to be that someone.
That steady work over generations is why our experience runs so deep. We service all brands of heating and air conditioning equipment, so you never have to wonder whether we can work on what you already have. We install high-efficiency furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and boilers matched to any fuel source, including natural gas, propane, heating oil, and electric.
We also have more than 35 years of hands-on experience with solar heating and geothermal heat pumps. When a homeowner asks whether one of these systems makes sense for their house, we can answer from real work in real homes, not from a brochure.

Our home base is at 334 W. Germantown Pike in Norristown. From here, we care for homes and businesses across Montgomery County and nearby Main Line and Chester County communities, including Blue Bell, King of Prussia, Plymouth Meeting, Conshohocken, Collegeville, Lansdale, Ambler, Phoenixville, Wayne, Malvern, West Chester, and many neighborhoods in between.
Most of our work is in homes, but we also serve local businesses with commercial heating, cooling, and boiler service. A storefront gets the same care and attention we give a family’s living room.
